Where poetry meets romance on a dream Destination Wedding in Siena
There’s a specific kind of stillness you only find in the hills of Siena—a mix of warm wind, the rustle of vineyards and the feeling that time has slowed down just for you. This farmhouse wasn’t just a backdrop; it was the landing pad for a literal world map of guests.
Friends and family travelled from Australia, Sweden and Italy, bringing different accents and stories to the table. It felt less like a formal event and more like a long-overdue homecoming.

all in one place
The energy inside was light—none of the usual wedding morning franticness, just a soft hum of anticipation.
There was something so lovely about the simplicity of the morning. No big glam squad; just the bride’s sister styling her hair while they chatted and her mum helping her into the dress.
The rooms were filled with a chaotic, beautiful mix of languages and the kind of easy laughter that happens when the people who know you best are all in one place.
It was a morning of small, quiet gestures. No performance, just the genuine excitement of a group of people who had traveled thousands of kilometers to finally be exactly where they were.
a sense of admiration
The first look took place in a quiet, shaded corner on the edge of the farmhouse grounds. It served as a brief sanctuary from the midday heat and the growing energy of the house.
Against the backdrop of the vineyards, the atmosphere in the shade was still and private. When Maria and Damian finally saw each other, there was a visible sense of admiration—a sharp intake of breath and a long exhale. It was a grounded, intimate pause for the two of them before the day truly began.
the heart of siena
From the quiet of the vineyards we moved to the stone and history of Siena. The entire wedding party made the drive from the farmhouse to the city center for the civil ceremony at the Palazzo Pubblico.
Located right in Piazza del Campo, the building is one of Italy’s most iconic landmarks and its high, vaulted halls provided a poetic, classical backdrop.
Before the ceremony began, there was a brief, quiet moment where the bride stopped to finish writing her vows. It was a grounding pause — just a pen, paper and the weight of what was about to be said.
a cello for the bride
The ceremony was intimate and deeply personal. A harpist played soft classical music that echoed through the historical hall. Yet the most touching moment came from Damian, when in a dedicated tribute to Maria, he took up his cello and brought a completely different layer of emotion to the day.
It was a ceremony that felt poetic and incredibly intimate.
Following the vows, we stayed within the walls of the Palazzo Pubblico for a brief photo session. The building’s architecture provided an incredibly artistic, almost mystical backdrop—vast stone hallways and light that fell in just the right places. It was a stark, beautiful contrast to the soft vineyards of the morning, giving the portraits a sense of history and weight.
a walk through the city
From the palace, the celebration spilled out into the heart of Siena. There is something uniquely special about a wedding party moving through the old town, the energy of one of Italy’s most famous cities blending with the intimacy of the day.
The group walked through the winding city center to Tartufo Restaurant. It was the perfect shift in atmosphere—moving from the ancient history of the palace to a lush, modern lunch. The setting was vibrant and sophisticated, a beautiful spot for everyone to finally sit down, raise a glass and celebrate the journey they had all taken to be there.
back to where everything started
After a long, indulgent lunch, we left the stone streets of Siena behind and headed back into the open air of the Tuscan countryside.
Returning to the farmhouse felt like doing a full circle. The afternoon light had begun to soften, casting a golden glow over the vineyards and olive trees. It was the perfect re-entry—moving from the formal grandeur of Siena back to the relaxed “sanctuary”.
As the sun began to dip, we stepped away for a final, quiet photo session. The Tuscan “golden hour” lived up to its reputation. It was a brief, romantic pause in the day—capturing Maria and Damian in that fleeting, perfect light before the evening truly took over.
into the night
The return to the farmhouse was met with a sudden, vibrant shift in energy. A fiddle band was already waiting, their versions of Italian classics echoing across the grounds as the wedding party arrived. It was the perfect, lighthearted bridge between the historic grandeur of Siena and the festive atmosphere of the countryside.
As the sun disappeared, the official party began. What started as a day of intimate rituals and quiet vows transformed into a spirited celebration that lasted long into the night. It was the perfect, high-energy conclusion to a day that had been, at its heart, about coming together.
a final note
It was a privilege to be the one behind the lens for this day, as every moment felt intentional and remarkably genuine. A huge thank you to Maria and Damian for trusting me to document such a personal chapter of their story. It was an unforgettable experience to witness so much artistic depth and poetry in one single day.
